Flemington-Raritan Regional School District

The Flemington-Raritan School District (FRSD) is a regional, pre-K-8 district serving the children, parents, and residents of Flemington Borough and Raritan Township, an area encompassing 38 square miles. Our nearly 3,200 students, 375 certified staff, and our support staff are housed in six buildings: four elementary (pre-K-4), an intermediate school (5-6), and a middle school (7-8).  Our graduates complete their 9-12 education at the Hunterdon Central Regional High School.

Together with our parents, we provide high-quality instructional programs that seek to meet each child’s individual academic, social, and emotional needs.  Our focus is on providing a safe and supportive learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity, a spirit of exploration, and ample opportunities for children to be successful.  We encourage positive social development through the Responsive Classroom approach and through frequent opportunities to work collaboratively with teachers and fellow students as part of the instructional process.  Our instructional programs are research-based, allow for student choice and differentiation, and prepare students to be college and career ready.

 

The District serves as the nucleus for the Tri-County STEM Ecosystem for Hunterdon County, Somerset County, and Mercer County (HSMC) STEM Ecosystem, one of New Jersey's six STEM Ecosystems. HSMC Tri-county STEM Ecosystem Consortium believes in the foundational principle that communities must come together for the benefit of providing opportunities for all in STEM.  STEM grants through the ecosystem provide STEM experiences for students, including STEM take-home kits and all-student-built green cars. The Ecosystem brings together multiple superintendents of schools from throughout Hunterdon, Somerset, and Mercer Counties in New Jersey to cultivate STEM learning throughout the State of New Jersey.

Our academic program includes a balanced literacy approach that utilizes Guided Reading and Writing, Reading and Writing Workshop, the use of Math Expressions (K-2), Envision Math (3-6), and Big Ideas Math (6-8), hands-on science, and interactive and engaging Social Studies Curriculum.  Spanish is available to all students in grades K-8, and French is introduced as an option in grades 7-8.
 
We have a robust program of related arts: art, general music, health, instrumental music, physical education, Sewing/Foods, and Technology and Design.  Students also have the opportunity to participate in a full array of intramural and extracurricular activities in grades 5-8.
 
The district offers a variety of support and gifted programs.  We serve as a Reading Recovery training site; each building has English Language Arts and Math specialists that work with struggling learners and gifted specialists who support a pull-out program in grades 3-8.  We also provide English-as-a-Second Language and Bilingual Education programs.  Each building has a media specialist, school counselor(s), school nurse(s), speech teachers, and access to Child Study Team members.
 
Technology is infused in all grade levels and subject areas.  Our infrastructure supports high-speed, wireless access in every instructional space in the district.  We provide a touchscreen 2-in-1 Chromebook to each student in grades 2-8 and Apple iPads to each K-1 student.  Technology Integration Specialists (TIS) support teachers to enhance instruction through the meaningful and engaging use of technology in all six schools.  

 
Finally, the district is committed to providing high-quality special education services in the least restrictive environment possible. Services include in-class support, pull-out resource centers, as well as programs for students with Multiple Disabilities, Learning/Language Disabilities, Behavior Disabilities, Autism, and preschool disabilities.
