    My name is Mrs. Barragan and I am a teacher at Francis A. Desmares School. I am the onsite literacy resource for all teachers. I help guide teachers through the most recent strategies and techniques in literacy so that they may most effectively and continuously monitor, assess and evaluate student progress. I work with teachers in planning to guide them as they sequence and organize instruction based on the common core standards. I assist in their continuing professional development in various ways such as coaching, collaborative planning, lesson demonstration and modeling, and dialogue. I also consult for effective literacy intervention when the need arises.
     
    About my professional background: I graduated from William Paterson  University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Elementary Education, and hold a Master of Science in Teaching Reading and Literacy. I have been an educator since 1997 and have had the pleasure of working with students in nearly all elementary grades. I also work with students in improving their reading comprehension, study skills, and preparation for the English portion of the SAT. I get much joy from seeing students learn and progress, especially with things they have struggled with. I like to believe I have helped them grow in persistence and dedication.
     
    A bit more about me: I love living in beautiful Hunterdon County. I enjoy the warm people and all the green open spaces. In my spare time, you can find me outdoors with my husband and son. There is nothing like the Jersey Shore, summer BBQs, and spending time with our many, many pets.
