Classroom Information

  • Masks & Covid

Govenor Murphy mandated masks at schools again, so we will at least be starting the year in them. Please keep an extra in your child's backpack. We will have regular mask breaks throughout the day.

For other Covid related questions, please follow the link to a FAQ page created by district administration. FAQ - Return to School 2021-2022.

    Snack

Second Graders' growing brains need healthy food and lots of water each day!  You may send in a nutritious snack with your child every day. Children may bring in a water bottle (please no sports drinks or juice) to stay hydrated throughout the day. There is a water filling station in the main lobby to refill as needed.

    Dismissal Changes

Please send a note prior to or the morning of any dismissal changes for your child. In the case an unexpected change, please call the Desmares office at 908-284-7540, rather then sending an email. Or email Jane in the office (jschnitz). While I do my best to check my email throughout the day, our days are jam-packed with learning and fun!

    Birthdays

We would love to celebrate your child's special day in school! If you'd like, you may send in a “Birthday Book."  This does not need to be a new book or have to do with birthdays—just a book that your child enjoys.  I will read the book to the class or you may come in as a guest reader. Last year, some parents Zoomed into class to read. If Zoom works better for you on your child's birthday, please let me know! We will have a special day to celebrate summer birthdays in June.

    Absences

Regular attendance is a big factor in student success. When students attend school regularly, they do not miss out on valuable instruction and/or practice of new skills. However, life happens and sometime absences are unavoidable. Please let myself and the office know about any prearranged absences beforehand.

Students have the same number of days to make up their work as the number of days they were absent. Makeup work is given when students return to school, although if you let me know at least a week in advance, I don't mind putting some stuff together before hand.
