"The more that you read, the more things you will know.  The more that you learn, the more places you'll go!"--Dr. Seuss

Hello and welcome to a new school year!   My name is Michelle Hilke and I am thrilled to be your child's Reading Recovery or Reading Support teacher this year.  Though this is only my fifth year teaching at Robert Hunter School, I am not new to the teaching world or to FRSD!

I attended The College of New Jersey where I received my degree in English and Elementary Education.  I also received my MA in Reading Specialization from Kean University.  I began my teaching career in 1999 and taught in the NJ public school system for 10 years.  I taught third grade, first grade, and reading and math support.  I then took time off from the classroom to stay home with my (then) young children.  During that time I was a Cub Scout leader, a homeroom parent, and the PTO president at Robert Hunter School!  It's very exciting for me to teach at the school that my children attended!  Robert Hunter School is a special place!

I live in Raritan Township with my husband, John, and our three children, Andrew (10th grade), Matthew (8th grade), and Abby (4th grade).  We also have an old cat named Milo and two silly cockapoo puppies named Ollie and Ruby.  When I am not teaching I can be found driving my kids to their activities around town.  I also enjoy traveling with my family (I've been to 34 states!), hiking and going to the beach (National Parks and OCNJ are our favorites!), reading (Charlotte's Web is my all time favorite book), and cooking (Italian is my specialty though my kids prefer microwaved chicken nuggets!).

It is a pleasure and a privilege to be able to teach your child the foundations of reading.  I believe in a strong home-school connection, and I look forward to a great year with you and your child!
