Back to School Letter
Dear Parents/Guardians: August 2021
My name is Jessica Grossweiler, and I am thrilled to be your child’s second grade teacher! This is my 8th year of teaching at Francis A. Desmares School. I have taught in a few positions at Desmares and love teaching second grade!
Second grade is a busy and exciting year. We will focus on expanding concepts and skills that were established in first grade, as well as building independence to be ready for third! We will learn about different writing styles and discover new genres in our growing library of books. Students will be working on building stamina and independence during Readers & Writers Workshop with a focus on strategy instruction. Students will be encouraged to approach math concepts by using new vocabulary and strategies to persevere in solving math questions. In science class, we will explore many topics from the Next Generation Science Standards and apply these ideas to the world around us. During our social studies time, we will learn about map skills, communities, colonial times, and historical figures.
Along with his or her school supplies, please pack your child a healthy snack and a water bottle. Water bottles can be refilled in the front hallway throughout the day. Due to the new state mandate, students are also required to wear a mask to school. Please pack an extra in their backpack just in case.
Thank you in advance for your support of our classroom and please don't hesitate to contact me with questions and concerns! My email is firstname.lastname@example.org and my preferred method of initial communication. I am happy to reach out by phone at your or my request. I also use Class Tag to communicate class announcements and photos. I will be sending out invites soon. Please do not feel as though you have to get the app. You are able to access the messages through email, SMS, and web. If you do get the app, the messaging system is an easy way to contact me from your phone and can translate automatically based on your language preference.
My website is up to date with helpful information and may answer some questions you have. Visit www.frsd.k12.nj.us, click on Desmares’ homepage, then classrooms, 2nd grade, and finally my name.
Here’s to a happy, successful year together!
