Ms. Burns has been an educator for the last 15 years. She began her teaching career as a special education teacher in Milford Public School. In 2006, she joined our district and has taught students at both the elementary and intermediate school levels. For a decade, Ms. Burns has served as a language arts and special education teacher for Grades 5 and 6 and as a Grade 6 Team Leader at Reading-Fleming Intermediate School. Over the last three years, Ms. Burns has served as an RTI Specialist, Elementary Gifted Specialist and Inclusion and Resource Center Teacher at Robert Hunter School. In 2018, Ms. Burns was named Teacher of the Year. Ms. Burns' skills, experience and dedication to students have been invaluable to the success of the Flemington-Raritan Regional School District.
Ms. Burns has contributed to various district committees, including strategic planning, an evaluation team, and Read Across America. She has served on a School Safety Team, I&RS team, curriculum writing teams, instructional learning teams and the district's Council of Instruction. She has presented during parent nights, trained teachers and staff in CPR and AED use, mentored teachers and led Student Council. She has served as an educational consultant for grant submissions, designed supporting protocols for our teacher evaluation framework and designed and presented district level professional development. These sessions focused on specific teaching strategies, technology applications, STEM, and online resources.
Ms. Burns earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education and special education from Kutztown University, a master's degree in education with a reading specialist certificate from LaSalle University and completed an additional master’s degree in educational leadership at Drexel University. She obtained Supervisor Certification for Grades K-12 from Caldwell College and completed a STEM Leadership program at Columbia University.
Ms. Burns holds NJ certifications as a Principal, Supervisor, Students with Disabilities Teacher, Elementary School Teacher in Grades K-6, Elementary School Teacher with Subject Matter Specialization in Language Arts/Literacy Specialist. She resides in Lambertville.
