A Ton of Helpful Hints for the
2022-2023 School Year
S.A.F.A.R.I Binders: This binder will be very important because it is a means of communicating with you! SAFARI is an acronym for Students And Families Are Responsibly Informed. The SAFARI binder is a great way to keep us both organized and encourage communication. It will also encourage responsibility in the students. While we will be discussing the components of this binder in class, please also discuss it with your child, reinforcing the importance of staying organized!! Your child is required to take this binder home every afternoon and is also responsible for bringing it back to school in the mornings.
Homework: All homework and notices for going home can be found in your child’s Safari folder in their binder. The left side of this folder is the "Left at Home" side and it is for all completed work or notices that are to be left at home. The right side of this folder is the "Right Back to School" side. It is for homework and notices that need to be signed and returned right back to school. Please check this folder every night. Also, if you need to send any notes to me, please put them in this folder. Your child will also write assignments in their assignment book each day found in their binder. Students will have math homework and 20 minutes of reading each night. I thank you in advance for working together to keep your child organized!
Snack: We will have a snack each morning around 10:00. Your child is encouraged to bring a healthy snack. Students are not allowed to share snacks due to food allergies and our Wellness Policy. Children get very disappointed when they don’t have a snack, so please make every effort to pack something each day. Cheese and crackers, popcorn, pretzels, fruits, vegetables, yogurt, applesauce, breakfast bars, and granola bars are just a few favorite nutritious suggestions.
Birthdays: Due to the Wellness Policy, I recommend that you do not send in any food or drink for birthday treats. If you would like to send in something to celebrate your child’s special day, I ask that you send in a “Birthday Book." This does not need to be a new book or have to do with birthdays—just a book that your child enjoys and would like to share with the class.
Absences: If your child is absent from school, a note must be sent in one day of his/her return explaining the absence.
*Please remember to send a note if you are picking your child up from school. If your child does not have a note, please call the office to let them know. The office will then notify me of the change in dismissal.
