In 4th grade, students have the opportunity to participate in various after-school music groups at Francis A. Desmares - the Choir Chime Club and the Advanced Recorder Ensemble Club. These groups offer students the chance to try new and more challenging music. Due to budget constraints, the district will no longer be offering these classes; however, thanks to the generous support of the Desmares PTO, we are able to continue our fantastic music programs at a minimal cost to participants.
Choir Chime Club for 4th graders will meet for six 1-hour sessions after school, in the music room. This music group is different from the others, in that each musician plays his or her own individual notes, and we learn to read music from a score. The Choir Chime Club will perform at the chorus concert. Each session will be limited in size to allow for a successful experience for those participating, so signs up are on a first come, first serve basis. Be on the look out for sign ups during the school year which will list the exact dates of this ensemble!
The Advanced Recorder Ensemble for 4th graders will meet for six 1-hour sessions after school, in the music room. This ensemble is a more challenging addition to the recorder work that fourth graders do for music class. This group learns new notes and fingerings at a quicker pace and plays unison, two-, and/or three-part music with accompaniment. Advanced Recorder students will perform at the chorus concert. All fourth grade students are invited to participate with the understanding that this group will involve extra practice time at home. Be on the look out for sign ups during the school year which will list the exact dates of this ensemble!
