On April 25, Margaret De’Angelis integrated technology into her students’ learning in a big way; her students participated in the BugScope project and deepened their understanding of insects and also developed a basic understanding of the microscopic world. The Bugscope project is an educational outreach program from the Beckman Institute’s Imaging Technology Group at the University of Illinois that supports K-12 classrooms, and provides interactive access to a scanning electron microscope. A proposal sent to the Beckman Institute by computer teacher Patricia Flavin was accepted and the first graders had the opportunity to view insects in minute detail. Students also had the opportunity to chat online with the scientists from the Imaging Technology Group.
