The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) provided a preschool expansion award for Flemington-Raritan's three and four-year-old olds through the preschool expansion award. The funding removed all costs for families and provides the opportunity to increase our preschool program from approximately 120 to 150 students for the 2023-2024 academic school year.
Effective January 16, 2024, the Flemington-Raritan School District expanded its preschool services to additional families for a free, full-day preschool experience for the children of residents of the community who have a child who is 3-4 years of age before October 1st of the school year. The program seeks to provide a safe and nurturing learning experience in which children can play and learn. Children identified by the Child Study Team as eligible for special education and related services and general education peers are placed together in a whole-child, developmental learning environment.
Children are instructed in the Tools of the Mind curriculum, which is inclusive of a variety of planned activities that promote readiness skills, language, motor, and social/emotional growth.
The Flemington-Raritan Preschool Program is held five days a week at Copper Hill Elementary School. As of January 16, 2024, the District preschool program expanded to also include classrooms at Robert Hunter Elementary School, Norwescap Head Start-Ringoes, and First Friends. The Preschool follows the District calendar for holidays. The classes are taught by teachers with the required New Jersey teaching certificate. Teaching Assistants provide additional instructional support.
The lottery for the 2024-2025 school year is now closed. Preschool expansion is a BIG endeavor, and each year, we will offer more seats.
