All About Mrs. Dahms

  • Welcome! My name is Amy Dahms, and I've been teaching here at Copper Hill School since the fall of 1998. It's been a long time, so I'll let you do the math!

Flemington-Raritan has been my home base for most of my life. I went to Barley Sheaf School, attended RFIS (back then it was called DKR), and graduated from Hunterdon Central High School. I studied English at Rutger's College, and received my Master's Degree from Rutger's Graduate School of Education.

When I'm not busy working with students, I'm spending time with my husband and two daughters. Doylestown, PA is home sweet home. Some of our favorite things to do together include: playing wiffle ball out front, snuggling up with a great book, crafting with glue and glitter, and having our very own dance parties.

Come to think of it, some of my favorite things to do at home are my favorite things to do in the classroom as well. I have a passion for great literature, and it's my goal to introduce kids to amazing writers and illustrators. The author's craft inspires me, so there are quotes sprinkled all around the classroom. You can often find me and my students huddled on the cozy carpet enjoying our newest read aloud. I also love to get creative, so my students and I frequently open up the art closet to give our lessons some dazzle with glitter and paint. Our creative energy sometimes makes its way over to our makeshift dance floor, the rug, where we get down and dance!

The most magical part of my career is the relationships that are made here. Each September is a new adventure, and each new day is a fresh palette. By the end of the school year, we really do become a classroom family. There's no greater satisfaction than catching up with former students and hearing how they are still friends with their third and fourth grade buddies.

I'm looking forward to helping your child learn, play, and grow in fourth grade! Here's to a great year!

    Warmly,

    Amy Dahms
