This year we will be using the IQWST program in combination with additional online resources found on Google Classroom. We will be studying the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) which outline a 3D approach to learning science. The standards interweave core ideas (the facts) with scientific practices (the behaviors that scientists use to understand the world around us) and crosscutting concepts (the ideas we will apply throughout our studies).
Units of Study
-
"Why Do Some Things Stop While Others Keep Going?" – Transfer, Transformation and Conversion of Energy
-
"How Can I Make Old Stuff From New Stuff?" - Chemical Reactions and Conservation of Matter
-
"What Is Going On Inside My Body?" – Body Systems and Cellular Processes
-
"How Does Food Provide Energy to Do Things?" – Chemical Reactions in Living Things
Scientific Practices
-
Asking Questions and Defining Problems
-
Developing and Using Models
-
Planning and Carrying Out Investigations
-
Analyzing and Interpreting Data
-
Using Mathematical and Computational Thinking
-
Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions
-
