At a ceremony on March 21, 2024, the Flemington-Raritan Regional School District in Hunterdon County, NJ, was awarded a $10,000 Sustainable Jersey for Schools grant to help support innovative school-based sustainability projects. The grant is funded by the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA). 

“We are incredibly grateful to Sustainable Jersey for Schools and the NJEA for supporting our work to engage our students in experiential learning,” said Kristen Wolff, Supervisor of Mathematics and Science in the Flemington-Raritan School District. “We intend to use the grant to fund field trips to learn about our environment for younger elementary students throughout the entire district.”  

The Flemington-Raritan Regional School District is among 13 districts in the state that received a $10,000 grant to support various STEAM and sustainability projects in 2023. The district plans to use the grant funding to provide enriching experiences centered on sustainability for students in each of the district’s four elementary schools. The goal is to provide interactive learning opportunities for our students to connect New Jersey Student Learning Standards to their outside environments.

“We will work with meaningful partner institutes in the surrounding area,” said Mrs. Wolff. “These partnerships offer hands on learning so that students can better understand the integration that environmental education has in their everyday lives.”
