Many Thanks!
I would like to take a moment to thank our students, staff, parents and community members for their patience, support and cooperation during and after Hurricane Sandy. In the wake of the hurricane and with some of you still without power, we came together to get back on our feet, open our schools and resume the outstanding instruction we provide our students. This morning, our teachers and staff greeted children, jumped back into their routines and brought about a sense of normalcy and calm to our children and families. I look forward to visiting all the schools over the course of the next three days to welcome everyone back and speak with them personally.
I especially want to thank Jim Shumate and the maintenance staff for their efforts in preparing the buildings for our re-opening. I want to extend to our technology team my appreciation for their efforts in restoring our technology capabilities throughout the district. I acknowledge and thank Glenn Barry and the transportation department who worked very hard to ensure student safety to and from school as the department faced many road closures, down wires and heavy traffic. Finally, I also need to thank our administrative team for their valuable insight and support, as we’ve spent many hours planning and addressing our district’s needs before, during and after the storm.
Please know that we are working on revisions to the district calendar to make up our recent school closings and to provide additional contingency days to prepare for winter weather.
As a winter storm approaches our area, please know that we are monitoring reports and will continue to communicate important information as needed. Thank you again for all that you do and for your ongoing cooperation and support. You are very much appreciated.
